During her two years as a resident at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Kley became interested in group dynamics. She focused on the residency as a model: a collective of individuals who all pursue their personal goals, but also have a primal need for social contact. She perceived this environment as a biotope, characterised by many different interacting elements that together form a dynamic community.
To reflect upon this situation, she collected and transformed the used coffee cups from the canteen of the Rijksakademie. This process resulted in a monumental sculptural environment; a translation and embodiment of shared space, time and interaction.
